Welcome to the Ballycastle Heritage Trail Website

This site has been specially created to provide additional information to the heritage information panels that are strategically positioned at key points of interest around the town.

The Ballycastle Heritage Trail was designed as an extension to the gateway signage located at the three main entrances to Ballycastle. The Heritage Trail presents images and tells stories relative to the location of the individual panels. The panels are designed to complement Ballycastle’s conservation status and they can be found in the town centre, on the Tow River Path and at the seafront also known as the Quay, where once wooden ships loaded with Ballycastle’s exports of kelp, leather, linen, butter oats and salt were shipped as far away as America.

If you click the links on the left had side of the screen, you can listen to some audio and video specially created for this site that tells the story of Ballycastle’s heritage narrated by local historian Danny McGill . A Heritage Trail leaflet has been designed to accompany the walking trail. A copy can be picked up free of charge from the Tourist Information Centre or alternatively you can download it here.

We hope the trail will help you understand what has made Ballycastle unique and encourage you to explore and discover more when you visit Ballycastle.
