Two Social Security Checks in August 2025? Know the Reason and Who Will Get These Checks

A typical month consists of a number of Social Security payments, with the dates varying according to the person’s birthdate or the sort of benefits they receive.  But in some months, the calendar forces some payment dates to be moved, allowing for the issuance of two checks in a single month.  On August 1, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will get their payout as planned. Two Social Security Checks in August 2025?

Since Monday, September 1st is Labor Day, SSI benefits will now be distributed on the final Friday of August.  The weekends of August 30 and 31 are not when SSI checks are issued.  September will see no SSI checks issued.  Dates of birth determine regular Social Security payments.  On the 2nd Wednesday of the month, individuals who were born between the first and the tenth of the month receive their paychecks. On the third Wednesday, those born on the eleventh and twentieth are paid, while those born on the twenty-first and thirty-first are paid on the fourth Wednesday.  The third of the month marks the payment of Social Security to those who received it before May 1997 or who are receiving both Social Security and SSI.

Some SSI users will receive two payments in August rather than one; however, this is not a bonus, so don’t get too happy.  Benefit payments are scheduled by the Social Security Administration, which is the reason for the double payment.  This scheduling oddity occurs occasionally during the year, but it can still be confusing if you don’t know that the second payment is just an advance to prevent payments from being delayed. What to do if the Social Security Payment Gets Delayed?

Social Security benefits are currently scheduled to be paid in August 2025 without any delays.  But if your payment is not made on time, get in touch with your bank or financial institution three business days following the date of your payment to make sure there hasn’t been an internal delay. If necessary, then get in touch with the SSA.  Online at ssa.gov/myaccount, you can verify the status of your payment.  As the SSA states that it “may be experiencing a delay in posting your payout,” those who do not get their electric payout on the designated date must primary get in touch with their bank or fiscal organization.

Why is SSA Sending 2 Payments in August 2025?

Since Labor Day is on September 1, 2025, SSI benefits will be paid out twice in August: on August 1 and August 29.  Consequently, the payment for September will be made on the last Thursday of August.  The dates on which the SSA pays out regular monthly benefits can vary, but they usually depend on the day of your birth.  Either the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday of the month is designated for Social Security RSDI claimants who submitted claims later than May 1, 1997.
